4th grade students in the state of Connecticut are required to take the Connecitcut Fitness Tests. This tests include the 90 degree push-up test, the curl-up test, the sit-and-reach, and the mile run or PACER test. Each test has research based standards that students must reach in order to pass the test. Discriptions of each test are below.
90 degree push-up: Students must perform push-ups to a cadence, lowering their body down until the elbows are at 90 degrees then they must raise their body back up while keeping the back straight. The push-up does not count if the elbows do not reach 90 degrees or if the middle is raised or slumped. Partial curl-up: Students lie on their back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. On the cadence they need to raise their torso up and slide thier hands across the strip on the floor. On the down cadence they lower their body back down to the floor. PACER: Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run. Students start at one end of the floor and on the beep they run across to the other side. They must reach the other line before the next beep, on that beep they must run back to the original side. They continue until they do not reach the other side before the beep two times. See "How To" video for demonstration. Sit-and-Reach: One leg is straight out, the other is bent with the foot touching the inside of the knee. Students must reach as far as they can with BOTH HANDS while maintaining a straight leg and hold for a 3 count. Repeat with the other leg. |
